BACKGROUND

BICx grew out of a human-centered design process in collaboration with the Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) Social Innovation team. Tasked by the CDC with destigmatizing and preventing HIV, the health department had been running a storytelling series called Baltimore in Conversation (BIC). I joined a team that was researching target populations in Baltimore and prototyping a new event.

CHALLENGE

We began prototyping and journey mapping prior to the pandemic. Many in Baltimore wanted a more intimate space to talk about HIV. In order to pivot to an online format, we would have to make sure that the event retained a personal feel.

SOLUTION

With strong input and leadership from the community, we developed an engaging experience on Zoom that was focused on sex during the pandemic. It will be an ongoing conversation series called BICx. Using my classmates' writing, I designed a summary book about our findings for BCHD.
