LEARNING FROM AN EPIDEMIC
BICx grew out of a human-centered design process in collaboration with the Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) Social Innovation team. Tasked by the CDC with destigmatizing and preventing HIV, the health department had been running a storytelling series called Baltimore in Conversation (BIC). I joined a team that was researching target populations in Baltimore and prototyping a new event.
We began prototyping and journey mapping prior to the pandemic. Many in Baltimore wanted a more intimate space to talk about HIV. In order to pivot to an online format, we would have to make sure that the event retained a personal feel.
